Terms of Use

Terms of Use

Last updated: August 2026

Welcome to the Good Companions 50 Plus Club website.

These terms provide general information about using our website, purchasing a membership and taking part in Club programs and events.

Nothing in these terms limits any rights or protections that cannot legally be limited.

Website Information

We make reasonable efforts to keep our website accurate and up to date.

Program schedules, instructors, prices, event details and Club hours may occasionally change. Please check the latest Club information or contact us if you are unsure about anything.

We cannot guarantee that the website will always be available or completely free from errors.

Membership

Good Companions primarily serves adults aged 50 and over.

The regular annual membership fee is $35.

New members joining between July 1 and December 31 pay $20 for the remainder of that calendar year.

Memberships normally expire on December 31 and are personal to the individual member.

Membership fees and activity fees are separate. Most regular programs have a drop-in fee, while classes, meals, trips and special events may have their own registration or ticket price.

Membership does not guarantee a place in every program or event.

Joining and Paying

Memberships may be purchased online or in person at the Club.

Online memberships, registrations and payments may be processed through secure third-party platforms such as Communal.

Good Companions does not directly store complete credit or debit card information entered through these external payment systems.

Anyone making a purchase is responsible for checking the information, date and amount before completing payment.

Refunds and Cancellations

Membership fees are generally non-refundable.

Program and event refund conditions may vary depending on the activity, registration deadline and costs already committed by the Club.

If the Club cancels an activity, participants will normally be offered a refund, credit, transfer or replacement date, as appropriate.

Separate cancellation conditions may apply to catered meals, registered classes, trips and special events. These will be provided when possible before registration.

Nothing in this section removes any refund or consumer right required by law.

Programs and Participation

Participation in Club programs, activities and events is voluntary.

Participants are responsible for choosing activities that are suitable for their interests, abilities and comfort level and for following reasonable instructions from staff, volunteers and instructors.

Some programs, trips or activities may have additional safety requirements, registration conditions or consent forms.

The Club may change, postpone or cancel an activity because of weather, instructor availability, building issues, low registration, safety concerns or circumstances outside the Club’s reasonable control.

Accessibility and Support

Good Companions has accessible entrances, accessible washrooms and a platform lift between floors.

We welcome people with disabilities and will consider reasonable requests to make Club programs and services more accessible.

Good Companions is a social and recreation club. It is not a medical clinic, personal-care service, assisted-living service or supervised care program.

Staff and volunteers cannot normally provide medical care, personal care, lifting, transfers or ongoing one-to-one support.

Anyone who needs this type of assistance should attend with their own appropriate support person.

Please contact us before attending if you have questions about accessibility or participation in a particular activity.

Respectful Conduct

Members, visitors, volunteers and participants are expected to treat one another respectfully.

Harassment, discrimination, threats, abusive behaviour, violence, deliberate property damage and conduct that creates an unsafe or seriously disruptive environment are not acceptable.

The Club may ask someone to leave, temporarily restrict participation or take further action where necessary to protect people, property or Club operations.

Membership suspension or termination will be handled in accordance with the Club’s bylaws and applicable policies.

Health and Emergencies

Anyone with concerns about taking part in a physical activity should consider obtaining appropriate professional advice before participating.

Club wellness presentations and information are provided for general educational purposes and are not a substitute for individual medical or professional advice.

In an emergency, staff or volunteers may contact emergency services and an emergency contact where one has been provided.

The Club cannot guarantee that medically trained personnel will be present at every activity.

Personal Belongings

Visitors are responsible for taking reasonable care of their belongings.

The Club is not responsible for belongings that are lost, stolen or damaged, except where responsibility cannot legally be excluded.

Photography and Media

Photographs or videos may occasionally be taken during Club activities for use in newsletters, on the website, on social media or in other Club materials.

Please tell a staff member if you do not wish to appear in general event photographs. We will make reasonable efforts to respect your preference.

Separate permission will normally be requested before using someone as the main subject of a promotional photograph, personal story, testimonial or recorded interview.

Privacy and Email

Good Companions may collect personal information needed to manage memberships, registrations, payments, enquiries and Club communications.

Information may be processed through trusted third-party membership, payment, email and registration services.

Personal information will be handled in accordance with applicable privacy requirements and the Club’s Privacy Policy.

People who subscribe to Club newsletters may unsubscribe at any time. The Club may still send necessary messages about a membership, payment, cancellation or activity for which someone has registered.

Our website may include links to external websites and services.

Good Companions does not control those services and is not responsible for their content, availability, security or privacy practices.

External platforms may have their own terms and policies.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms as Club practices, services or legal requirements change.

The current version will be posted on this page with the date it was last updated.

If part of these terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining sections will continue to apply.
