Why Support Us?
For over 50 years, Good Companions has been a place where older adults in Calgary gather, laugh, learn, move, and belong.
Many of our members live alone.
Some have lost lifelong partners.
Some are new to Calgary and rebuilding community from scratch.
When they walk through our doors, they aren’t just attending a program — they are stepping into connection.
On any given day you’ll hear cards being shuffled, see friends chatting over tea, or watch someone trying something new for the first time in years. For many, this isn’t just a building.
It’s their social lifeline.
Nearly one in three older adults in Canada reports feeling socially isolated.
Connection isn’t a luxury — it’s essential to health, wellbeing and dignity.
Your support helps ensure no one has to age alone.

What Your Support Makes Possible
Your generosity helps us:
- Keep membership and program costs affordable

You may direct your gift toward a particular approved priority, or allow the Club to use it where it is needed most.
Unrestricted donations give us the greatest flexibility to respond to emerging needs and opportunities.
Ways to Give
Donate Online
Make a secure online donation through CanadaHelps or the Club’s online donation system.
A receipt will be provided for eligible online donations in accordance with the platform’s process.
Donate by E-Transfer

- Any requested gift designation
For a business donation, please provide the business’s legal name and address.

Businesses and Community Partners
Make a Corporate Donation
Businesses may make a charitable gift to support the Club’s programs, facility and community impact.
Eligible corporate donations may receive an official donation receipt in the legal name of the business that made the gift.
Businesses may also be acknowledged in a general donor list or thank-you message, with permission.
Sponsor a Program, Event or Project
Businesses can also support Good Companions through sponsorship.
Potential opportunities may include:
- Monthly birthday luncheons
- Social suppers and community meals
- Concerts and entertainment
- Trips and outings
- Health and wellness activities
- Accessibility improvements
- Technology and equipment
- Furniture and facility renewal
- Special community projects
Sponsorships may include agreed recognition such as a business name or logo in selected Club materials.
Because sponsorship may provide advertising or promotional benefits to the business, it is different from a charitable donation. The Club will confirm the appropriate documentation and whether any portion is eligible for an official donation receipt before the sponsorship is finalized.
Donate Goods, Equipment or Materials
We welcome conversations about useful in-kind donations, including:
- Program and event supplies
- Food and refreshments
- Furniture
- Technology
- Tools and building materials
- Accessibility equipment
- Prizes and gift cards
- Professional equipment
Please contact us before purchasing, delivering or arranging an in-kind gift. This helps us confirm that the item is needed, safe, suitable and that we have space to accept it.
Some gifts of property may be eligible for an official donation receipt based on applicable rules and documented fair market value.
Employee Giving and Volunteering
Businesses may also support the Club through:
- Employee matching-gift programs
- Workplace fundraising
- Employee volunteer days
- Team service projects
- Donation drives
- Skills-based volunteering
We would be happy to discuss an opportunity that fits your team and provides meaningful value to the Club.
Foundations and Grantmakers
We welcome conversations with foundations, granting organizations and community funds interested in:
- Healthy and active aging
- Social connection and belonging
- Accessibility
- Community infrastructure
- Lifelong learning
- Volunteerism
- Facility renewal
- Organizational sustainability
Supporting information, budgets and project details can be provided upon request.
Recognition and Tax Receipts
Good Companions can issue official donation receipts for eligible gifts in accordance with Canada Revenue Agency requirements.
A receipt must be issued to the individual or organization that actually made the gift.
The amount eligible for receipting may be reduced when a donor receives goods, services, advertising or another benefit in return.
Prominent business promotion, advertising or exclusive recognition may be treated as sponsorship rather than a charitable donation. We will discuss this with the business before confirming the arrangement.
Recognition is always subject to agreement with the Club and may include:
- Acknowledgment in a Club newsletter
- Recognition on the Club website
- Social-media thanks
- Recognition at a supported event
- Inclusion in a donor or community-partner list
- Acknowledgment within the Club building
Businesses may also choose to remain anonymous.
Good Companions does not provide individual tax, legal or accounting advice. Donors and sponsors should consult their own professional advisor where needed.

Not every contribution needs to be financial.

- Sharing Club information
- Following and engaging with us on social media
- Encouraging someone to visit or become a member
- Including Good Companions in a workplace giving campaign

Leave a Legacy
A gift in your will can help ensure that future generations of Calgarians continue to have a welcoming and affordable place to connect after 50.
Legacy gifts may include:
